About two weeks after our class returned from the trip to New Orleans, I joined the Navy. While in the Navy I received 32 weeks of training to be an electronic technician. I served aboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Oriskany, CVA-34 for almost 2 ½ years. Linda Hightower and I were married in February of 1962 while I was still in the Navy and she was a senior in high school and we're still happily married. We have two sons and one daughter, four granddaughters and one great grandson.
After my time in the Navy, I was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration, and served for 29 years as a “Long Range Radar Technicianâ€. The bulk of this time was spent on top of a 9600 ft. mountain here in northern Nevada although I also spent 4 years in Las Vegas, NV and 3 years in North Platte, NE. I retired from the FAA in 1995 but I'm still “in the business†maintaining several “mountain top†television translator sites for several Nevada counties.
I'm sure that all of you who have had children in school realize just how special our school and our teachers were. They guided us, put up with us, and managed to give us a great education in the process.
I regret that we will be unable to be with you at the reunion. We hope to make the “All Class Reunion†in 2010 if we don't get old before then. So far, so good.
